GoGirlfriend.com is a recently launched online travel magazine for women. They feature interesting, exciting, luxurious, and many other travel destinations, tips, tricks and of course stories. And when managing editor Julia Rosien heard of our story she found it so interesting she put it on the front page of their online magazine edition. You can check it out at www.gogirlfriend.com.

Here is one line she wrote which I liked “Because, in all honesty, if I can figure out a way to do what they’re doing, I’m outta here!”

And before we’re out of here we have to make sure we don’t fall sick along the way, so today we also went to get our last two set of vaccinations before our travels. So far we’ve been vaccinated against Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Influenza. We’re also looking at which Malaria medicine to bring with us to help prevent getting Malaria while we are in Africa or places in South America where it is endemic.

We’ve been invited to stay in a luxurious game reserve in Africa, and we definitely look forward to that! It’s in a malaria-free-zone which is great. Afterwards though we’d like to explore some other parts of Africa, maybe going to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or Zambia, and malaria is a big problem there so we’ll have to be prepared!

Possible Trip Delay

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Our plan has been to leave on our round-the-world one-year work while traveling trip on the 29th of December. We had all the tickets booked and were ready to go when Grace’s aunt - who has been battling cancer for around 6 months - was hospitalized in critical condition.

She has a type of Leukemia called AML which is the most difficult to treat as it spreads extremely fast. Today she entered the ICA unit as her blood pressure goes from highs to lows and she needs 24/7 medical attention to monitor her blood levels and administer any blood or platelet transfusions or other medical care.

Aunt at our Wedding

Happier times. Grace’s aunt and cousin at our wedding in Spain.

We now need to wait to see what happens before going anywhere. This difficult time makes us more determined to live life to the fullest. Once we have a clearer picture of how things are going we can work out when to leave. After all, family comes first.

In the meantime we will continue to post videos of our Asian travels on Worldiki.

Our Itinerary

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

After much deliberation, we’ve finally got a rough idea of what our itinerary will be :D
To plan this route, we had to see which round-the-world ticket to get. Initially we were thinking of getting one with Star Alliance, but after calculating our mileage and the destinations we want to go to we’ll probably be getting it with One World as they cover more of South America and give better value for money for our particular route.

Here’s our tentative 1-year nonstop travel/work route:

Our Route

We’ve already done a large part of our Asian leg which included Macau, Hong Kong, Borneo, and Chiang Mai (Thailand). Once we start traveling around the world nonstop for 1 year starting from January 2008, here is what our route may look like:

Singapore, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Puerto Rico, Miami, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Spain (and surroundings), Italy (and surroundings), Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, South Africa, and possibly others that we decide to see along the way.

We’ll probably stay in Europe for a few months and drive around to a few countries not mentioned here. And if we ever want to see new places along the way then we’ll adapt our trip accordingly. :)

Orangutan Pose

We had a great time in Borneo and got to see all kinds of wildlife including these friendly Orangutans. Now that we’re back though, we’ve been doing a bit of thinking and researching about where we should go next. We have a few commitments in Asia in November so we can’t go too far away.

Here are some places we’re considering:

Komodo Islands, Indonesia - Apart from the magnificent Komodo Dragons, there is plenty of wildlife on these Indonesian islands.

National Parks, India - Seeing a tiger up close and personal from the safety of an elephant has got to be one of the most amazing feelings!

National Parks, Sri Lanka - A friend of mine who went there got to see leopards, elephants and bears, all in their natural habitat! We just have to make sure it’s safe enough to go now.

After that we might get a round-the-world ticket and travel to all the places we’ve always wanted to see.

That of course leads to a potential problem, what if those places don’t have high-speed internet access? Well we’re looking into satellite internet technology that has a pretty much global reach so we might use that. :D

Here’s a big question to all our viewers, if there was one place in the world you could go to, where would it be? Let us know in the comments! :)
