Stanley’s Little Empire

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Once upon a time, the Lisboa casino was the biggest and best in Macau. At that time a Mr. Stanley Ho had the monopoly of the gambling scene in Macau and used whatever means necessary to keep out competition. Then the Portuguese gave the land back to China, and the good Communist Party boys thought they wanted a piece of the action!

They decided they could get some more money by selling off licenses to casinos. So along came Sands and then Wynn, and all of a sudden the Lisboa looked like the old gambling den it was, rather than the majestic money maker Mr. Ho wanted it to be! Of course that meant he was losing money as people went to the competition!

So after consulting with his favorite feng shui master, he came up with a plan. He would build a new and better Lisboa, and he would call it the Grand Lisboa, and to give him luck in his venture, he would build it in the shape of a giant lotus flower, just as his feng shui master said he should.

But we’re jumping ahead of ourselves. Before we could visit his oversized weed, um I mean flower, we had to get internet access in the hotel.

The Gambling Capital of Asia

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Welcome to the gambling capital of Asia! A place where all those who have invested in building casinos have made a fortune and continue to pull in the big bucks! Of course we’re talking about Macau. The Sands casino reportedly made back its initial investment in only 6 months! Now that’s one good investment!

This is the fastest video we’ve edited so far! It took less than an hour to put together! We’re working on getting faster at editing so that we can try to do a daily video while traveling.

Where Are All the People??

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

This was our first trip flying budget out of Singapore and we got to go through the brand new budget terminal that has just been built here. It is only a stone’s throw from the other terminals, and yet a world away! Take a look at the video!

The first thing we noticed when we came in was that the place looked like a ghost town!! Nothing like the crowded, yet highly efficient terminal 1 & 2. Where did all the people go? Does no one fly budget here? Or more likely, most budget carriers don’t yet go to the budget terminal.

The Fun Begins

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

We just touched down in Singapore at a bit past midnight local time and are just back home after what has been a really great trip in Macau and Hong Kong! This trip has given us excellent insight into how we can plan our future travels and how we can make this website a very exciting place to visit!

To start off with we will be editing the videos of our trip and posting clips of them here for all of you to see! We have quite a few hours of footage and will be selecting the best (best of us anyway ;) ) for our video blog :)

There are also some exciting new projects we will be working on in our travels! We’ll update you with more information soon, but for now, we’ll be calling it a night since it’s 2am and we need some sleep!
