Giant Buddha Looks On

Friday, December 28th, 2007

As we drove down the windy road up the mountain to the giant buddha, it didn’t seem like we were in Hong Kong. The air was crisp and fresh with the smell of salt and there was none of the smog and smell of exhaust fumes that are so common in most of Hong Kong. And of course there was the scenery, there were none of the high rises that are so common elsewhere in Hong Kong, and all that can be seen are hills, mountains and the sea, a sea filled with islands shrouded in fog.

Once up the mountain the view was even more impressive.

Here’s the giant buddha sitting like a crown at the top of the mountain.

Want Some Dragon Beard?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The closest most of us have ever gotten to dragons is in the story books we’ve read as kids or the computer games we’ve played. But if you want to get even closer and take a bite of dragon’s beard, all you have to do is head off to your nearest dragon beard candy store in Hong Kong, China or even Singapore. :)

For all you animal lovers, don’t worry, no dragons are harmed in the making of dragon beard candy ;) . Dragon beard is made out of flour which are turned into fine strands - thus the beard look - and stuffed with sweetened peanuts.

Seeing Giant Pandas

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

It’s amazing how many species of animals are endangered, it seems everywhere we go many of the animals we see are on the brink of extinction! Take the cuddly pandas we saw in the Hong Kong zoo for example, due to habitat loss, pandas are going the way of the dinosaur. There are many animals we are familiar with but have never seen for real, and in our case one of them was the Giant Panda.

Lost in Goldfish Market

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

G: Pedro’s American accent got lost while we were figuring out how to get to Tung Choi Street, a popular street in Kowloon, Hong Kong, where aquarium and pet shops are located. I’ll give him a -1/5 for his weirdo speak and 6/5 for making me laugh while filming him ;)
