It Doesn’t Feel Like New York

It’s a funny feeling when you’re in New York and for some reason it doesn’t feel like New York. Ok, maybe it’s just the cold that’s numbing our senses and all we can feel is the need to get in some warm building and have a warm drink. Or maybe it’s just the fact that we’re going on a weekend and there are more tourists than New Yorkers.

No, both of those seem to be pretty standard parts of New York life, so maybe it’s just that we’re staying in Jersey City right across the river from New York. Or could it be that we’re traveling to so many places that we’re feeling “jet jaded”. Whatever the reason, for some reason New York feels less like New York than Chicago felt like Chicago.

In any case, we’re having a great time here :) Today we took the PATH down the other line to 33rd street which leads to the Empire State, Times Square, and Macy’s.Macy’s claims to be the the largest store in the world, and whether or not that is true, it is a massive store with over 8 floors. And as a woman, how could Grace resist a chance to shop ;) Surprisingly, many clothes are much cheaper here in the US - even in the heart of NY - than in Singapore! I have to keep reminding Grace our suitcases are already packed to the brim since there are always so many things she likes at the stores :)

Pedro Times Square - New York

My smile outshining - er blocking - Times Square

After Grace satisfied her shopping craving, I dragged her through the cold streets of Manhattan to Times Square which is home to the Nasdaq, Good Morning America by ABC and NBC studios. What’s so special about Times Square? Well it has a lot of flashing advertisement LED boards everywhere and a lot of tourists snapping photos and that’s about all we had time to see before we had to duck inside to warm up from the cold!
